- I was out late one night at a local state park when I spotted a red
- light in the air. It was about two degrees off the horizon, which is
- tree covered. I figured it being after the fourth, someone was
- shooting off fireworks. But this was no firework. I've shot off many
- and well know what they look like. It took a full 30 seconds for the
- object to fall below the tree line. My next thought was it must of
- been some kind of flare. I know flares descend slowly, but this also
- moved a full 5 degrees or so across the horizon. I know the object
- was a mile away or farther, and given that there was little wind, I
- don't see how a flare could drift that far. The light was much too
- big for a plane's navigation lights. It was probably about 1/2" in
- diameter at arms length. Its brightness produce a very noticeable
- small translucent glow around it. This occurred in South West Ohio
- north of Cincinnati. I was at the Ceaser Creek spillway and it was
- around 10:45pm.
-
- I'm just throwing this out to see if I can get a better explanation
- than a flare. That's my inclination, but the movement just doesn't
- quite match up what I would expect a flare to move like.
